Job Duties

  • Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team focussing on resident centered care
  • Provide leadership and support to RPNs, PSWs and UCPs and volunteers for the delivery of resident care
  • Acts as the charge nurse in dealing with managing emergency situations
  • Manages and monitors staffing and scheduling
  • Reporting to the DOC any changes, high risk situation or family concerns
  • Embrace and encourage family participation as part of the residents lived experience
  • Ensure that residents are being taken care of according to their needs and following any medical instructions from their physicians accurately and compassionately
  • Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary care team
  • Update families with any change in resident conditions
  • Initiate the assessment, planning, development and implementation of resident care plans
  • Supervise Personal Support Workers (PSWs) and other Unregulated Care Providers (UCPs) staff currently assigned to your home area
  • Communicate effectively with the medical care team and other members of the circler of care
  • Participate in care/situational conferences, medical rounds and team huddles
  • Provide medication administration and treatment management
  • Document on all aspects of care and treatments
  • Comply with compliance and regulatory legislation from the Ministry of Long-term care (MOHLTC)
  • Provide direction, delegation to PSWs and UCPs
  • Respond to resident/families concerns and provide immediate actions to mitigate issues
  • Participate in quality initiative, patient safety and Infection Prevention and Control Practices (IPAC), clinical programs and health and safety practices   

Job Requirements

  1. Completion of a university, college or other approved registered nursing program.
  2. Registration with a regulatory body in all provinces and territories
  3. Minimum 1-2 years’ experience and willing to be trained

Key Qualifications

  1. Experience working with elderly with responsive behaviors or cognitive impairments
  2. Vulnerable Sector Check (with criminal background check)
  3. Covid Vaccine (at minimum two doses)
  4. Ability to work as a team and to follow direction
  5. Computer literacy and experience
  6. Current Basic Life support and first aid certification
  7. Able to multi task, organize and manage daily task with multiple residents
  8. Possess strong critical thinking skills, excellent written and oral communications
  9. Strong leadership and communication skills
  10. Able to critically think in emergency situation
